چکیده

There is a continuing controvers), in the literatwe and in clinical practice about whether positioning devices are effectIVe in decreasing spasticity and, If so, whlCh type is most effective. In this study, the immediate effects of a volar resting splint, a finger s/Jreader, a firm cone, and no deuice were com.pared on eight normal and four hemiplegic subJects. Electromyography (EivIC) was used to measure flexor muscle activity of the tested forearm while the subjects squeezed a gmsp meter with the contmlateral hand and during the following relaxation pen ad. Results showed sig;niflcantly greater EMC activity for the finger spreader compared to no device in the flexor carpi radialis of normal subjects dunng the grasping period. HemiplegiC subjects did not show significantly less EAIC actiVity when using positioning devices com/Jared to no deuice. 1n fart, the volar splint appeared to increase the EMC ac17vity while the subJects were grasping. A COlllparison of Dorsal and Volar

Ten adults with hypertonic wrist flexors volunteered as subjects in an experiment comparing the effectiveness of dorsal and volar resting hand splints in the reduction of abnormal muscle tone. Subjects were randomly assigned to two groups of five each, Individuals in one group were fitted with dorsal splints, and individuals in a second group with volar splints. Measurements by spring-weighted ...

بررسی اثر اسپلینت ولار نئوپرنی دست بر گرفتن قدرتی و اسپاستی سیته یک فرد مبتلا به سکته مغزی (مطالعه آزمایشی)

Introduction: Grip strength and muscle tone of the upper limb is one of the most important factors changed in post-stroke patients. The effect of splint in the reduction of muscle tone and strength in patients with stroke is significant. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of volar neoprene hand splint on grip strength and spasticity in a patient with stroke. Methods: In thi...

Giant Cell Tumor of Tendon Sheath

Background:  Giant cell tumor of tendon sheath (GCTTS) is often thought of as a volar finger mass. We hypothesized that GCTTS are equally common on the dorsal and volar aspects of the hand. In addition, we hypothesized that there are no factors associated with the location (volar versus dorsal) and largest measured dimension of a GCTTS.  Methods:  A total of 126 patients with a pathological dia...

Long Term Effects of Volar-Dorsal Wrist/ Hand Immobilization Splint on Motor Components and Function of Stroke Patients

Objectives: This study was designed to determine the effects of Volar-Dorsal Wrist/Hand Immobilization Splint on upper extremity motor components and function of stroke patients. Methods: fourteen patients were participated in this study. The patients were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and were given the splint after a primary evaluation. They were re-evaluated afte...

Objective evaluation of a splint designed to reduce hypertonicity.

Snook's spasticity reduction splint was evaluated objectively with five severely and profoundly handicapped subjects. The force of spastic wrist flexors in pounds of pull was measured on a spring-weighted scale. Findings demonstrated that the device designed for this study was useful in measuring hypertonus; splint wearing resulted in a reduction of the passive component of muscle tone and that...
